Berry Springs Preserve Herps of Texas report, 18Jul2022

In spite of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there was a small group outing to Berry Springs Park and Preserve again this month.
Three amphibian species were observed in and along the edge of Berry Creek: Rio Grande Leopard Frog (CI = 0), Blanchard's Cricket Frog (CI = 3), and Green Treefrog (CI = 3). The Rio Grande Leopard Frog was seen along the edge of Berry Creek below the boardwalk, but no photos or audio recordings were obtained. Audio recordings were obtained for the other two species calling from an isolated pool in the creek below the dam.
According to the USGS gauge station at Berry Creek at Airport Road near Georgetown, TX (https://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/uv/?site_no=08105095&PARAmeter_cd=00045), there had been 0.49 inches of rain three weeks before the monitoring session. The sloughs were dry, only a large puddle was at the bottom of the main pond, and there were only isolated pools in Berry Creek.
Photos were also obtained of a young armadillo that was scuffling through the leaf litter under and near the boardwalk.
The monitoring period was 20:35 - 21:35.
Participants were Kathy and Christie.
Environmental conditions at the main ponds at sunset:
Air temperature = 91.6 deg F
Water temperature = N/A
Sky = no/few clouds
Water level = much below average
Relative humidity = 31 %
