Berry Springs Preserve Herps of Texas report, 22Feb2022
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there was no group outing to Berry Springs Park and Preserve this month. However, two people checked on the amphibians while while wearing masks and social distancing.
Two amphibian species were observed in the main ponds: Rio Grande Leopard Frog (CI = 3) and American Bullfrog (CI = 1). No photos were obtained. Audio recordings were obtained for Rio Grande Leopard Frog, but not for American Bullfrog.
According to the USGS gauge station at Berry Creek at Airport Rd near Georgetown, TX (https://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/uv/?site_no=08105095&PARAmeter_cd=00045), there had been 2.65" of rain three weeks before monitoring. Temperatures were in the mid-80s the day before and the day of monitoring, but a cold front had moved through a couple of hours before monitoring.
The monitoring period was 18:30 - 19:30.
