After our 9:00 a.m. Ecology and Evolution class, Carlota and I decided to go take a one hour walk at the Hammond Pond Reservation. It was my first time going to the reserve. It was a slightly cloudy yet bright day. The temperature outside was the best weather for a walk. It was chilly but warm enough to be just in light sweater. It was about 68 degrees Fahrenheit. During our walk from campus to the reserve, I couldn't help but notice how fast the seasons are changing. It felt like yesterday that we were outside enjoying 80ish degree weather and now the leaves turned orange and are on the ground. Once we arrived to the park, I was amazed by how beautiful it was. Even though it was right next to campus and the T it still felt like I was completely immersed in a forest. It was relatively quiet and peaceful. I could only hear a couple birds chirping. We walked alongside a small brook which had a bright green color. I couldn't tell if they were aquatic plants or microbes. Along the way we also met an old lady walking her dog. We were on the search for fungi to, as we saw the new nature walk assignment and were curious to whether there were any in the reserve. To our surprise we didn't find any. We finished our walk and headed back to campus for our next classes. Overall, I really enjoyed it. It was such a relaxing autumn walk and a great way to start the day.
