Hi, this is Marcie (Marcelle Praetorius),a life long nature lover. More than 50 years ago I briefly considered a career as an entomologist/economic reality led me to nursing instead. I fondly remember finding a Cecropia moth larva as a child, cracking rocks from a nearby brook (we were near the Terminal Moraine on Long Island so had lots of different kinds), popping the seeds of Jewelweed, using my bird guide and Golden Nature Guides from an early age. I rescued a Jack-in-the-Pulpit from the bulldozers as they cleared the woods across from our home. I am an Ebirder,I am also interested in photography and my husband Parker Collins and I love to take nature photos together. I got involved in INaturalist after Leon County/Tallahassee, FL was part of the Citywide Nature Challenge in 2019. Remarkably, I won the most research grade and most research grade bird observations even thought I am in bed a good bit of the day. I am disabled with Myasthenia Gravis which produces an antibody that destroys acetylcholine between the nerve and muscle. I have difficulty lifting my arms. The more activity I do, the hotter and humid it is, the quicker I get weak> I know enough to stop before the muscles temporarily paralyze and to be home to lie down and if I ever overdid it,my diaphragm would paralyze and stop me from breathing. Even entering observations uses up my muscle ability so you will see me intermittently online. You would not know by looking at me that I have this invisible disability but I make the most of the time I have to do what I love. I appreciate all that I learn from my reviewers and look forward to learning even more.
