Please join us for a June Bioblitz at Timberlake Field Station--June 23-25. Attendees may begin arriving at 2 pm Friday or anytime thereafter. We'll depart after lunch Sunday.

Upon arrival and before exploring, sign a release form at the pavilion.

The original cabin (with AC and restrooms) is available and has four rooms beds. In addition there are two new bunkhouses (with AC and toilet). There's lots of room to pitch a tent, or car camp, near the restroom and shower facility. No need to make reservation for cabin or bunkhouses--plenty of beds now.

I would love to come to this Russell but I can't commit due to family birthdays in late June. I will let you know if I can. Tagging @dillon_kyle

thanks @mikef451 ! @pfau_tarleton I'm hoping to make it to this but will know for sure as we get closer to the date! Are we allowed to collect insect specimens during the bioblitz for closer Identification later at home (using moth traps, sweep nets, beat sheets, aspirators, etc.)?

Anotado por dillon_kyle hace 11 meses

Yes, collection is allowed.

I plan to be there. What's a good time frame to be there Friday? I probably can't be out of Dallas before 6.

Anotado por williampaulwhite17 hace 11 meses

I would like to attend, too. Thanks for organizing, Russell.

Anotado por amzapp hace 11 meses

See everyone there.

Anotado por connlindajo hace 11 meses

I'm definitely planning to attend. Looking forward to see Timberlake and everyone again!

I so wish I could come. That is the weekend I pick up my grandson from Camp in New Mexico. I DO want to make one of your events.

I work nights that Friday, so I wouldn't arrive until 10a & y'all will be out in the field already. One of these days I will get to hang out with all of you!

I was just remarking about Timberlake to a gathering of some naturalists (iNat and Texas Masters) last night. Tagging those folks:

@lulubelle People are moving around all the time when at Timberlake, it's almost always someone at "headquarters", so coming at 10am Saturday shouldn't be an issue. Someone will be there to get you started.

Anotado por annikaml hace 11 meses

It's on my calendar!! Thanks Russell!

Anotado por wildcarrot hace 11 meses

Sadly, I won't be able to make this one.

Anotado por bacchusrock hace 11 meses

@jellyfishmambo might be interested

Anotado por bosqueaaron hace 11 meses

I'll be there! I might use a bunkhouse bed depending on the temperature. =D

I've been out to Timberlake twice the past two weeks and did some casual observing--nothing serious--and found at least 24 new species records for Timberlake (a few of them rarely documented state-wide). This despite there being >17,000 observations and 2200 species. The vireos and other songbirds have been abundant, and two of the vireos have yet to be photographed (audio only)....red-eyed and yellow-throated. And there seems to have been a recent dragonfly emergence.

Watch for hogs, especially around water.

For those seeking out the ponds for aquatic life, the Google doc linked to above has a map showing them all (see the last page).

Park vehicles in the vicinity of the pavilion, bathhouse, and bunkhouse (on mowed grass).

The tap water is from a shallow well, and we've been told it's best not to drink it. So bring your own water to drink. I'll supply several bags of ice.

The beds are regular twin size--and the ones in the bunkhouses are of the type you'd find in a college dorm NOT a nice hotel. :)

any word on aquatic sampling? I'm not that great at it but if they allow it I might try to dipnet for bugs/small fish and see what I can find.

Anotado por williampaulwhite17 hace 11 meses

Sure, aquatic sampling is fine.

Anotado por pfau_tarleton hace 11 meses

Looking forward to seeing everyone however, due to a change in plans, I will not arrive until Saturday morning. My two grandsons have leading roles (Yes, I am bragging!) in the Milam County Children's Theater production this weekend and I must see the Friday night presentation. Happy iNat-ing!

Anotado por connlindajo hace 11 meses

That's great excuse for showing up late, Linda Jo. Tell them to "break a leg"!

Once you hit the gravel road portion, is it a rough drive or pretty smooth? I would driving my Honda Civic.

Anotado por lulubelle hace 11 meses

@lulubelle, it's pretty well maintained.

Anotado por pfau_tarleton hace 11 meses

@pfau_tarleton, thanks so much!

Anotado por lulubelle hace 11 meses

Tentatively will try to attend, though not sure which day I would be arriving.

Anotado por rymcdaniel hace 11 meses

I can't make today! But I will arrive Saturday afternoon!

Anotado por k8thegr8 hace 10 meses

I have to cancel this time. Very bummed!

Anotado por annikaml hace 10 meses

Busy shift last night & still at work. Will come to the next one. Hope y'all find lots of good stuff! Stay hydrated!

Anotado por lulubelle hace 10 meses

It was a blast!

Anotado por williampaulwhite17 hace 10 meses

Heat, what heat? I don't remember any heat. And only 1 mosquito! I know lots of folks saw some really cool things--looking forward to seeing them all!
