A beautiful, lignicolous, primarily tropical and subtropical genus in the Cortinariaceae. An unnamed section (as of the 4th edition of Agaricales in Modern Taxonomy) contains the (then two) species with prominent lilac pigments, though more have been described since.

Substrate: on downed, well-decomposed, decorticate “Laurel” log (Ocotea sp.)

Habitat: secondary lowland tropical rainforest, regularly subject to landslides and some human disturbance. adjacent to golf course and horse pasture.

Small, fragile, 10cm tall. In leaf mould in heavy shade, lowland spring-fed monsoon forest, on drier part towards margin.

This is a normal gilled mushroom that has a very thin cap flesh, which splits radially (between the gills). Further drying lifts and twists the gill-segments into the flower shape in the image. The type specimen from Vanauatu had the same form on all fruitbodies, but the author was unsure whether this was an oddity, or the normal condition. The find of this Australian specimen shows that it is the norm, but it would be great to find young fruitbodies to understand exactly of the final form develops – at what point in development does it depart from a mushroom shape?

The species is Hausknechtia floriformis, a monotypic genus only described in 2020, with a single species described (by Anton Hausknecht) in 2003, previously only known from Vanuatu. I have been on the lookout for it, great to know it occurs in Australia too.

These tiny hairy mushrooms were growing from a rotting hardwood log near a small stream.

hairy margin which gathered a lot of water, these were inside the nooks of an old Bigleaf Maple, behind ample spider webs.
Photos 3-5 are a day later after sitting on my desk, these dried up.

Five green and yellow tortoise-shell-like structures found on a fallen leaf (probably hangehange, Geniostoma rupestre) on a forest track. Nine days later numerous tiny yellow egg-shaped objects appeared scattered over the surface. Eggs?

Fruiting in moss covered/rotted wood beneath Douglas fir, snowbrush and Ponderosa pine.
Very small specimens.
Cap: granulose, powdery, veil material hanging from margins.
Gills: reddish/pink. Free.
Stem: pruinose, pinkish maroon, veil band visible.
Bulb attached to substrate.
Harvested 4 specimens.
Performed crush mount in KOH to view spores.
Spores: elliptical, slightly curved.
Dehydrated all specimens and bagged for herbarium collection.
