Rich deciduous woodlands adjacent to hillside seeps amongst acer saccharum, ostrya virginiana, scattered Quercus spp., and prunus serotina. Shrub layer containing spiny Ribes spp. (probably including Ribes cynosbati based on habitat) and Zanthoxylum americanum. Site is somewhat sheltered from disturbance (deer, humans) by the prickly shrub layer associates.
At least a few dozen mature individuals.

This volunteer is growing at the back of the lot. 36” tall with leaves as long as my thumb. Not sure the app suggested ID is correct. No flowers yet
