Hollow stem
3 to 4 inches long
Small black spider the size of my thumbnail
It had a spine in the back the width of a human hair. In addition to crawling, the bug would periodically jump about an inch at a time. The bug was a little more than an inch long. I saw it on the Bonneville shoreline trail.

Most people never notice these awesome little camoufleurs, but I have them all around my yard and know how to spot them!
They look big and tough in photos, but in the spring they are so tiny you'd never see them unless you were looking. That's the wood grain of a fence post behind this colorful beauty.
Rescued this little guy from an onslaught of naughty kitties! He was super cute :)
Even after they get mowed, these cuties still come up! :)
