The events that were planned in Frisco were postponed, so instead, Elizabeth and I stayed a bit closer to home -- we went to southwest Tarrant County to this amazing area in Benbrook. The winds were quite frustrating, but lots of stuff was out!!! Had great fun. :)
This poor bee got stuck in a trap meant for frogs and was half drowned. I picked her up and put her on a flower to rest and dry off.
I was photographing little pollinators visiting the mostly weedy flowers in the lawn around the main building at NKU's field station (REFS) when a brilliant orange bee caught my eye. It was about 1 cm long and enjoying some henbit flowers.
Was this some new, colorful native that I'd never seen before? Nope -- closeups show it was painted with pollen. I guess it could be from the henbit, but there were also trout lilies nearby with copious orange pollen.
