Mating display included sousing and head bobbing reciprocated by the female
With young only a few days old
Was loafing but was quick to move away after it opened its eyes and saw me
Stiff tail obvious. Was napping opened one eye and then moved off. This is the female.
Dimming light but the male and female BBD still here easy feeding at the lake.
2 blue billed ducks (majority of the photos are of the one closest to the fence)
Hard to get a run wing flap brief fly across a lake from a Female blue billed duck but this is some of one of two sequences that I could get today. Very surprising and hard to plan for to get the best shots but this is one of the sequences I got. Over the 40-50 metres of the sequence the blue bill gained virtually no height. It likely needs a lot more wing speed to get the elevation it needs and more distance to achieve liftoff. Quite an ungainly flop and finish to the sequence as it moved across the lake. It only took a few seconds.
Female with two ducklings second photo shows mum with bill open
. These are long distance shots from the western side of the Lake looking at the eastern shoreline. This is the newer of the duckling broods. The other brood tucked away a little to the right and not clear enough in photo .
