This observation is for the snake that is not the ribbon snake being eaten, but for the brown snake that is doing the eating.
As I walked off the large blind boardwalk at Bittern Marsh, I heard some rustling in the vegetation just by the boardwalk. I looked down, and saw the head of the larger brown snake. As my eyes adjusted and I looked closer, I could see that the snake was attempting to eat the smaller ribbon snake. Both snakes were rather small. As I observed, the brown snake gave up its attempt to consume the other snake, let it go (or the other snake escaped) and coiled up for a minute before slithering off into the grass.
not sure which species... maybe eastern clapper?
