Caps to 5 cm, convex, orange-hued (peach), viscid (sheen when dry), tightly fibrillose, downturned
Gills whitish, notched, adnate. covered by cortina.
Stems to 6 cm X 1.8, base bulbous, silky and finely fibrillos, cream with orange fibrils, flesh white with peach staining in cut base.
Odour strong, fruity, honey-like. Spores 10.5 X 5.5, oblong, finely verrucose.
Clumped at base of Garry Oak
A very good match to Cortinarius olivaceopetasatus. The spores were 11.5-13.5 x 6-7.5 microns.Very slow pinkish reaction of cap and flesh to 40% KOH. Darker brown under uv
Growing on moose dung
This photo was not taken in situ where it was growing, as my camera battery had run out, so the type of moss it's in is not necessarily the same, though it may have been (it was taken from a similar woods 15 miles away).
