Female eastern painted turtle, very heavy individual.
Couldn’t tell if this was a Ribbon or Garter. Snake lacked the striped lips but also lacked the white patch near eye that usually signifies a ribbon snake (I think). Pretty docile snake, demonstrated some defensive posturing but not striking. Located near vernal pool, overcast day around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. 14 inches in length, belly tender (no recent prey eaten, no eggs). No cosmetic issues on scales, healthy snake!
