It is June, and they’ve just started to appear. This is the best photo I could get of it. Every time I tried to grab it, it pushed its front legs forward and scurried away, then tried to burrow into the ground. It has a furry underside, unlike the Southern masked chafer, which also is slightly longer and darker in color. For some reason, most Northern masked chafers I’ve encountered seem to have a foul odor.
