Number next to fern prond in picture 3 is 200mm
Not flowering. Spines ~4cm apart and were at least 1cm long.
Leaves felt soft and flimsy. Underside of leaves is a slightly paler green than on top.
Underside of leaves are light green, leaves were 4-8mm long. Not flowering.
Note: The long, thin tussock like leaves are not from this shrub but another plant growing underneath.
Small plant with reddish pod growing on scree slope below Red Hill (Lake Lyndon).
Decumbent shrub growing under a Manuka in grassy shrubland around Cass field station. Stripes on underside of leaves. A4 paper for scale. Markings on scale 1cm apart.
Found on gentle scree slope in exposed area away from beech trees.
Found in alpine grassland surrounded by other exotic grasses
Found on Cragieburn ski field, surrounded by other low growing plants in immediate area, wider area was scree.
Found on side of road in exposed area, dry gravelly soil, on a raised bank next to the Waimakariri river.

Modified, flattened stems that look like leaves, around 20 mm long.
