A annual spreading to prostrate growing succulent herb with green to red stems which is covered with attentive glittering cells and white hair, can grow up till 20cm high. The leaves are oblong to egg shaped, fleshy with attentive glittering cells and white hair, can grow to 2cm long. The flowers are purple and compact on the end of the stems, growing between soft white hair. Flowers July to November.
Not a species of my area, but I was lucky enough to see this guy and photograph it.
The bird was calling in the tree watching something on the ground, then it flew down and picked up a big green mantis.
It then flew back up, juggled the insect and swallowed it.
This all took place at the entrance to the Klipriversberg Nature Reserve in the South of Johannesburg.
