Abundant number consuming leaves and flowers of Sierra Gooseberry, Ribes roezlii. Identified to species via dissection of collected samples under magnification by beetle researcher Dr. Shawn Clark of BYU.
A Sierra gooseberry had many of these small, dark metallic blue beetles all over it. While they look similar to the alder leaf beetle, there were ample young alder trees nearby with tender young foliage, yet these bugs seemed happy on the gooseberry, and were apparently eating holes in its young leaves and flowers. Identified to species via dissection of collected samples under magnification by beetle researcher Dr. Shawn Clark of BYU.
Attracted to lights in old field / garden habitat adjacent to mixed forest.
