Probably alarm call at seeing cat.
While my cat and I were listening to chirping from this nest: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/226087556
This bird lands on a rail above us with something (a bug?) held in its beak and begins these loud calls, which it does for a couple minutes.
Then flies away to a somewhat distant tree. After it flies away, there's no more chirping coming from the nest.
A couple minutes later this bird comes back to the same rail perch and continues alarm calling. It puts down whatever what was in its beak and appeared to eat part of it? Then picked up the rest and flew back to the tree.
After a couple minutes some occasional chirps started from the nest again.
-Similar has happened before, with both a female and male bird, in the same spot.
-Top floor of apartment building.
-Photos have had brightness & contrast drastically adjusted to better see patterns, but colors may be off
-My cat was on a leash and supervised and no danger to the birds
I think there's a nest in this drain pipe above a neighbor's door. Have seen two adult birds flying out from that direction before
While we were listening to the nest, mom bird came home with dinner and yelled at us till we went away: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/226090300
These pelicans and others along with some seagulls were out in the ocean with many common dolphins presumably all chasing fish.
Not the best photos I know, but I wanted to at least document that Red-Whiskered Bulbuls have been in one of my Manzanitas lately eating the berries. A couple weeks ago I saw 2 bulbuls with a fledgling. Not sure if this was the same group, but there was a group of 3 in the Manzanita 'Louis Edmunds'. Got these photos of one of them.
