At first I thought this was a lady fern but then I noticed how long the tapered ends were
AKA Trichomanes petersii. Hiwassee River, John Muir Trail, rock wall in moist forest. The photos include 4 taken in the field with the Highlands Biological Station Ferns class, and 3 in the lab, all of the same plant. I'm not 100% sure of the habitat photo (the middle one) -- someone pointed out the "dark stuff" as the Trichomanes but I didn't verify that. The lab photos show a "trumpet shaped sorus" with sporangia.
