The lilies were orange with brown spots. The pistol/stamen are bright green with brown pollen top. The flowers are about 3 inches in diameter. The stalks are long and green. It is located on a hillside near a creek. The plant is in dirt that is covered in leaves and other natural debris. The flowers are heavy enough that they hang upside down, probably from lack of support. It is in a shady spot with tall trees overhead. The trees were a mixture of bay and oak. I believe this flower to be a leopard lily.

This insect was found in a woodland area with about 85% canopy cover near a slow-moving stream that created a small pool. The insect was standing in a small section of grass in a slightly muddy area. The insect's body is approximately 1.5 cm long with antennae around 1 cm in length and an ovipositor also approximately 1 cm long. Because of the ovipositor, the insect should be a female. Most of its body is black but its abdomen is rounded and a bright reddish amber color. Its 6 legs are slightly hairy and also have a reddish-brown color. It has two relatively see-through wings that reach to the end of its abdomen.

Found between the edge of an oak forest and a Chaparral. When the species was observed it was sunny (approximately 80 degrees Fahrenheit). When I touched the leaves of the plant, a non-sticky "sap" gave my fingers a citrus/ herb scent (the scent smelled like the taste of the new green tips of a Douglass fir). The flower grew in rocky/ arid soil on the edge of the trail and there was no shade or tree cover over the plant. There were approximately 20 -30 plants within an 5 foot by 5 foot area. As we continued our hike, I spotted more of the plant clustered together on the sides of the trail, on rocky hillsides, and in a grassland area. The flowers themselves are white in color. This flower has 3 petals on either side with spaces in between the petals, but when I observed other flowers they had petals all the way around the middle of the flower (with no spaces in between). The flower also has very small flowers (3 in the picture) located in the middle of the big flower. The stems of the flowers are red/brown in color and the leaves of the plant are light/medium green. The diameter of the flower was approximately 2 cm. On some of the flowers it looked like part of the flower had not bloomed yet (it was still budding) or had fallen off by though an indeterminate cause. The size, amount of budding, and amount of petals/small flowers varied with all the flowers on each individual plant. The height of each plant was approximately 1/2 -1 1/2 feet tall.

I have no idea what species left behind this scat but it may be a skunk. It is about 2 inches long and has many seeds or berries in it, although it appears as though there may be a bit of fur in it as well. Its color is redish-orangish-brown. It was found in an oak woodland with about 80% canopy cover. The scat itself was on a trail among leaves and dirt, at the threshold between a wooded hill and grassland.

He was about an inch big. On the outward facing part of his wings there was an orange bar with black spots all over his cream colored wings. The inside facing part of his wings were a dusty blue almost lavender color slightly iridescent. Part of one of his wings was torn when I caught him. He was caught in a grassy area. There were a lot of other butterflies but no other square spotted blue butterflies were seen.
