Found whilst digging in my very overgrown veggie garden in Eyrewell Forest.
Common on the island. Same size as mainland specimens. Even out they're still being trapped in discarded bottles though!
Beetle at bottom of the photo. These beetles are proving a challenge to ID and they live in the same place! From the photos, I suspect the bottom one is M strictum.........The shape of the elytra are more rounded and less impressed in intervals 1 to 4
Beetle at top of photo. Based on depth of punctures in intervals 1 to 4, M longicolle?
Likely not yet described. Has distinctive reflective margins on the elytra
Under log in exotic forest understorey. About 3 cm long.
Three supraorbital punctures, quite flat on the disc, punctures thinner and less deep in centre, deeper at sides. Was looking for M. strictum.........Very shiny. One of three similar beetles found. Fairly sure this one isnt longicolle?
Under log in exotic forest understorey. About 3 cm long.
I was adding vermicost to the garden and found this guy in the worm bin
