Several double-created cormorants at the lake in the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve. Some swimming & diving, some in flight, some perched in trees, including the one shown airing its wings.
Looks similar, or perhaps some type of vireo. Very tiny and very busy. Never stays still long enough for a decent photo. Loves the crabapple flowers.
Small, dark cormorant, roughly 2/3 the size of the Double-crested Cormorants with which it was associating. Proportionately long tail and short bill compared to DCCO. Rare vagrant for Michigan, found by Ethan Urban and Valarie Trabucchi on September 14, 2020 and continuing through st least September 17. Seen and enjoyed by dozens of Michigan birders, including Michigan’s eBird reviewer.
Observations were made on Saturdays between 0600 hours to 0800 hours. Altitude 1420-1440 meters.
