Get ready to defend yourself if you pick on a Red-winged Blackbird. All you can do is make yourself as big as you can and prepare for attack from a RWBB army! Note the brave "suicide bomber" flying straight at the enemy in photo 5. Also take note of the not-so-graceful exit in the final photo.
This was all happening right above my head in the rain with an umbrella and my camera with a short lens. I don't think anyone noticed me: too busy in battle.

My Observation #5000 is dedicated to this magnificent patient soul that sat in a Black Walnut tree above a very active bird feeder busy with frequent visits by many House Sparrows. It was also facing a hole in the trunk of the tree occupied by an Eastern Grey Squirrel that was peeking out with careful watchful eyes, all the while crying in despair/fear. The hawk was seen scanning the area but chose instead to preen, scratch, and take advantage of the gusty winds helping to fluff up its feathers. As far as I know, not one creature was harmed during its 2 hour visit.
