Small, unfortunately dead, snake seen on a walk in Holmes Park this morning. Out of the woods by about 10 feet and out of grassy pasture by about 3 feet
Greenesnake asked about likely cause of death. No certainty. The pasture had been mowed a day or so earlier. Lots of foot traffic as well though.

This is a scan of a photo in a field ecology journal of mine. I used to teach a field ecology course at Des Moines Area Community College. The dates and locations of this observation was recorded in the journal.

Found this northern redbelly snake on Skerryvore Community Road. Cloudy weather, 14degrees C after a morning of sunshine. I took it to the side off the road.
