Caught while swordfishing in 2000' of water. Released after collecting data. Seam away strong. Local biologist and ichthyologist were unsure of species. No other records of any similar shark observed in Cayman waters.

Was looking at a group of 30 Black Oystercatchers when I noticed a fishs fins flapping out of the surf. The fish then came out of the water and started flailing in the sand. I immediately ran towards it and tried to drag it back towards the water at least 5 times by its tail but had no luck getting it all the way back into the water. We ended up leaving after trying for about 5 minutes to get it back in the water since I was guiding at the time.

Commercially caught fish. A couple of them came in with a load of ruby snapper and barracouta.

These individuals all had a fleshy protrusion between the eyes above the snout- it looked like an angler fishes' lure but felt caltilaginous and was covered in the same skin as the face. Teeth looked simmilar to a cookie cutter shark. The fillets looked identical to any shark you'd see in a chip shop.
The eyes were very strange- almost felt like they were part of the skin. They almost didn't seem like a separate organ, just a different coloured patch of skin (I had a good poke lol!) Total length approx 60cm.

Caught in unknown waters off SW WA and landed at Fremantle.

A pair of Oarfish spotted while onboard the RV Investigator off Stradbroke Island. Roughly 2m in length. They hung around the CTD cable for roughly 2 hours.

Coordinates were 27 17.38 S 154 08.89 E and water temperature was 21.92 degrees Celsius.
