Subspecies primarily consisting of grey-phased individuals. Characterized by Aldritch and Friedmann (1943) by the smoky grey nape, back, tail, and tail coverts, with extensive feathering along the tarsi (as seen in this individual). Resident throughout northeastern BC, south along the eastern Rockies to northwestern Wyoming, and east along the aspen parkland and spruce-fir forest into Quebec.
Questionable ID. found dead and intact on a log on a trail about 50 meters within the coastal forest on Helby Island

Cardinal getting territorial with itself in this mirror. It was doing the same thing last week too. It spends a not-insignificant amount of time battling itself.
Resident subspecies of American dipper, characterized by a dullish brown head and neck that weakly contrasts the overall grey body. One of two feeding in the creek. I was happily surprised to see how close this one got while foraging in the chilly water.
