Specimens were wild caught, photos were after specimens were vouchered for research purposes. Caught in 2015 while community sampling mid-sized rivers of Missouri.

Inner lining of body cavity silver, upper lip considerably thickened at midline.

smelled nice and tasted a bit sweet. large seed inside. i think it might be ackee fruit? unsure

update: turns out it’s the worlds deadliest fruit. whoops!! my tongue and throat are numb but i’ll live (i only licked it and did not swallow)

This is a specimen that was given to me by Robert Hrabik, to use as a reference specimen. Mainly uploading on iNat so people can see the basiocipital process.
Unsure of the exact collection location

Kind of a weird technique. I used a Lil Corky as a float with a worm below the float. After failing to catch these for a few hours, I tried pitching at them while they were subsurface and actively filtering. I set my hook 3-5 in below the float. This worked, but I don't think the fish "ate" the worm, rather it just inhaled it because it was in its path / the suction from their filtration is strong.

This fish was given to another angler to eat.

Showing signs of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia. Note the hemorrhagic inside of the head opposite where the hook went in, the hemorrhaging at the top of the pectoral fin, and the pink head color. It also had some pretty cool scars.
