Terrestrial Fungi are Back

May is the month when we start to see our terrestrial fungi start fruiting. Some to watch for:

Morel, always the occasional reporting on the island, though nothing has been submitted to iNaturalist. Likely to fruit towards the end of May and June.

Gyromitra sp. have already been found this year, so keep an eye out. Only 13 records for these species on PEI in spite of them being fairly common.

Witches' Cauldron is a rare fungi and has been found in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, so no reason it should not be hear as well. Let's try and find this fungi in older spruce forests.
