Year end summary

Now that 2018 is in the rear-view mirror, a quick summary of results in the project for 2018. The numbers may change slightly with any belated entries (I know I still have a few to add).

2018 ended with 2,334 observations being submitted, which represented 182 different species documented in the year from 398 different observers.

If all time submissions are counted, the numbers grow to 3,558 total records having been submitted representing 201 species from 620 observers.

Right now (yes I know this group is hard to nail down sometimes), 32% of records have reached research grade status, meaning they have been reviewed, and at least 2 people agree to the identification.

Good hunting to all for 2019, both in bryophytes and other areas.

200 species documented

Not sure I can deterimine which species, or observer was responsible for the milestone, but looking at the home page of the project this evening, I see it has hit the 200 species milestone.

Provincial checklist in iNaturalist

With @tristanlknight having an electronic copy in pdf form of the Atlas of Ontario Mosses, I have started the process of uploading that list into iNaturalist as a checklist.

I believe I read when going through the document it documented 490 species of moss in Ontario, so it will take a little time for me to create the complete checklist (the document is a pdf, so not great for electronic manipulation).

The checklist is here :
https://www.inaturalist.org/check_lists/1574460-Mosses-of-Ontario

The atlas is in the public domain, so if you want a copy of the pdf, I can direct you where to find it, or send a copy.

As always if you know someone who would be interested in the project, be sure to let them know about it, and of course to encourage anyone you know who may have records to contribute to load them up, or join onto iNaturalist.

Happy December-

New Bryophytes project

I've just put this together to aggregate the sightings in the province. Hopefully it can serve as a good guide to what is out there, new things you can look for, even a way to find sightings to review etc.

Just tagging a few of the top observers and identifiers in the province in case you wish to follow or join.
