The Best Christmas Present

Someone gave me a yearly pass to Texas State Parks so I can go all I want for free with the card. Best present ever! I plan to use it as much as I can.

In other news, I tried to visit Gus Engeling WMA in Tennessee Colony, Texas, this weekend because their website advertised wetland areas full of pitcher plants, sundews, bladderworts, softshell turtles, beavers, alligators, and orchids. Unfortunately, shortly after I got there, it began thundering and lightning, so I only got to see a tiny area. I'll try to go back in the spring, when the orchids and other wildflowers will be in bloom. I can't wait.

Texas weather being what it is and has been.... I just hope to survive a stormy night according to the hype on my local TV news channel.
Hope you are able to enjoy your pass to the fullest during the coming year... and perhaps we may encounter each other on one of the trails.

Gus Engeling is such a cool place -- if you have some idea of when you're planning to go in the spring, I would love to tag along! No obligations though, of course. :)

And I agree -- you'll have a blast with the texas parks pass! I've gotten parks passes for the past several years and have thoroughly enjoyed them.

Oh, I'd love to go to Gus Engeling with you! I'll probably go in April, because the Bluebonnets should be in bloom by then.
