Range
Chondria acrorhizophora is found from California (USA) to Baja California (MEX) more commonly, but can be found from the Gulf of California (MEX) through Central America and has been recorded in Chile.
Habitat
C. acrorhizophora is found in the low to sub intertidal zone, and can grow epiphitically on other algae.
Morphology and Identification
Chondria acrorhizophora is considered synonymous with Chondria californica (Algaebase, 2018). This species is a filamentous red algae that can have a blue-iridescent color when submerged. This species can grow between 7-10 cm tall, and has major and smaller cylindrical branching that becomes progressively shorter until the tips just appear curly. This species can grow epiphytically on other algae and surfgrass.
