MUST you change the common name as well as the scientific name???? Keeping it the same (Common Silverweed) provides some continuity. Please.

I have not changed the common name, the problem is probably that you see another name because there are five common names

In the UK the common name is just SILVERWEED and as for the change in scientific binomial - rubbish - poor old Linnaeus - 300 years!!!

OK, then let's CHANGE the common name to Silverweed!!

There are several active common names, and silverweed is one of them (of many more common names that exist for this taxon!). I think always the first name in the list is shown, but it is possible to enter any of them to find A. anserina.
But usually common names are not good for a ID, they are often misleading because common names are often used for several species. I bet many of the Argentina species are called silverweed, in fact it would make sense to call this genus 'silverweeds' and the genus Potentilla 'cinquefoils'. Most Argentina species are endemic to south eastern Asia, especially China and New Guinea only few species have spread around the world. iNaturalist is a global tool, and not just for ecoregions like the UK where there is only one species. In my opinion it makes more sense to use names that are unique, so i would prefer the name common silverweed compared to the many other silverweed species.

Active common names:
common silverweed
silver cinquefoil
silverweed
Silverweed Cinquefoil

Thanks for your views - I am afraid I do not necessarily agreed with them but for the sake of iNat protocol if 'Common' has to used I am willing to begrudgingly accept it. Cheers.

As i said, silverweed without the word common is enough to be redirected to A. anserina. The only problem you have that only one of the common names is displayed at once.

I understand your point - but I was considering from the point of view of a British naturalist in Britain (or elsewhere) with his account settings set as common names for UK trying to make an observation or ID for Silverweed (as he understands it) - he is not interested in any other type of Silverweed in the world - he wants to id Silverweed - this is now confused still further with a change in Scientific binomial that is NOW not in any book or piece of reference material he owns or can view - hope you understand. Cheers.
