South section - 01/05/2022

Wednesday, 9:30-13:00 one live/ injured newt, 306 dead newts
I walked with Anne F. and Nush
Weather: nice.
Coverage: from Aldercroft Heights Rd intersection to the second stop sign.
Newts: we had 306 dead newts, most of them fresh. 100 of the newts were found on the lake side of the road, 206 on the hill side. At least 20 juveniles. The live newt was a small individual, crossing the road quickly (made it to the hill side). Both its eyes were closed. I'm not sure it was injured - it looked fine otherwise. Other roadkills: ensantina, snails and slug, including an interesting slug, with its shell sticking out (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/104444088), millipedes, centipedes
Traffic: 2 trucks, 30 cars (including Midpen), 1 motorcycle, 1 pedestrian, 9 bikes (one of them was dragging a large thing, on his way to Baja!), 4 parked cars.
