Day 1 of European BioBlitz!

Good morning and welcome to the first day of European BioBlitz 2021!

We hope you have a great day of wildlife recording!

Here’s what’s happening today

Today we will be hearing from experts from across Europe live on the ERN Intersections Twitter page and on the UK BioBlitz Facebook page.

Here’s what’s coming up:

Live Interview with Maike Brinksma
12:30pm
The first of our live interviews with researchers across the globe is kicking off with Maike Brinksma, a researcher currently located in the Netherlands and Germany. Maike addresses topics of ecological and environmental justice, studying human-nature connections and promoting rights for nature. She is an environmental activist, and through research, storytelling and sharing her passion for the outdoors, she hopes to contribute to environmental protection, and inspire others to care for our non-human surroundings. Join us as she discusses her work with the River Collective.

Live Interview with Eva Perrin
14:00pm
Eva is an environmental scientist based in Bristol with a particular interest in rivers. Eva is currently studying for a PhD at the University of the West of England, where she is trying to find new ways to understand more about the health of our rivers by listening to what some of their smallest inhabitants – the bacteria who live in the water – have to say.

Botany Quiz
16:00pm
Our friends at Chalford Climate Action Network have provided us with a fun quiz to test your botanical skills - get involved and put your plant knowledge to the test on our Instagram stories (@ern_intersections)!

You can keep updated with the species being recorded across Europe on the iNaturalist project page: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/eurobioblitz-2021
