Nature Walk Two

Yesterday, I went on a hike at Wilson Mountain on the Needham/Dedham line about five minutes away from my house. I had been there once before, but my friend and I tried to hike to the highest point of the mountain. We came across some really interesting plants and trees, as well as many insects all around. My friend informed me that barn owls frequented the trees of this mountain, but we sadly did not see any. We also kept an eye out for snakes which I have seen the last time I was there but thankfully we did not come across any. We found many plants along the path, and came across many tree trunks and plants growing out of fallen trees. There was a ton of greenery but it was cool to search for interesting and different plants. Unfortunately our hike was cut short due to my friend's allergic reaction to a bug bite, but I hope to go back soon and explore more!

I thought that these leaves were interesting, they seemed to resemble the shape of poison ivy plants. They stuck out to me in an area with lots of greenery due to their leaf shape and the visible lines throughout the leaves.

Though I see pine cones all the time wherever I am, when I saw one at Wilson Mountain it stuck out to me because of the this week's lectures. Based on this picture, and the skinniness, I believe this to be a male cone.

I thought that this plant was super cool due to the holes and brighter patches. Maybe an insect ate through the leaves. I'm not sure why some patches are a brighter green color!

this tree trunk was extremely interesting to look at. It seemed to have some fungi growing on it as well as some plants growing out of it. There was also a greenish shade on some of the trunk, but I am not sure what that is.

Though Wilson Mountain is covered with moss, I thought this patch was particularly cool to look at. It had little sprouts of a lighter green plant sticking out of it. I know that it is moss, but I am not sure what type.

Though this is not a plant, I thought that this patch of dirt next to a tree trunk was very cool to look at. There was many different colors in this dirt.

I thought these leaves where interesting because most of them were dead, but they were surrounded by bright green leaves. I wonder why they are dead while other leaves are living nearby. I think they were growing off of a tree that had fallen, so maybe that is why they looked so dried out and dead.

These two leaves were growing in the middle of a patch of dirt and rocks, not really surrounded by any other plants. I thought their bright coloration and clear lines were cool to look at!

Though Wilson Mountain has plenty of plants and greenery, this was the only flower I came across on my walk. I have never seen anything like it before, and they had beautiful white and pink coloring. It seems to match the images and description of the mountain-laurels species, so I believe that might be what they are. Each flower had multiple tubes connecting into the middle, which I thought was super interesting. I am not sure what they are.

This moss was a particularly large patch that I found nearby a tree. I thought that it was interesting because it was a brighter green than the others.

I thought this plant was very interesting. I'm not sure what it is but it looked like some moss with these bright green starish shaped projections.

I thought this miss patch was interesting due to the more dull color!
