I spend most of my time looking at bryophytes, and I am interested primarily in the evolution and taxonomy of mosses and liverworts. More than anything I enjoy the process of identification, and I try to learn more every day. I'm most familiar with the mosses and thalloid/large-leafy liverworts, but I am still learning Sphagnum spp., the Hypnales, and the small to tiny leafy liverworts. I am very familiar with my favorite group, the Polytrichaceae, and in particular the genus Atrichum. My goal is to find species with few/no records in NJ to better understand the bryophyte flora of the state.
