One of my favorite first memories as a child is being enamored by this little flower, the scarlet pimpernel (Anagallis arvensis).

I owe a lot to my mother who piqued my interest with nature. We reared anise swallowtails (Papilio zelicaon), giant swallowtails (Papilio rumiko), and monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus) throughout my formative years. We took great pleasure watching them grow, change form, and releasing them back to nature.

What makes the majority of my observations unique is that they are mostly taken from the same place — home. Chronic illnesses come with limitations. But being able to see the change and frequency of new birds, plants, animals, and insects over the span of several decades has been interesting for me to see. No matter what's happening, there's always something new to discover. I am always eager to find, photograph, and record them here with others that share this common interest and discover what's new around me — especially when it's not always accessible. I am most grateful to see and learn from the experts of their field, as well as iNaturalist for tracking the way.

My formal educational background lies in Religious Studies & Philosophy, but that is likely to change when I return back to my studies at UC Berkeley. Joseph Campbell once said, "Follow your bliss," and that's exactly what led me here.
