I am not a scientist but have a long history in Bushland Regeneration and currently work at the National Herbarium of NSW. I grew up exploring wooded paddocks of the Cumberland Plain and my love of nature has been a constant ever since. Relatively recently, after slowly transforming my urban garden of about 20 exotics and 3 natives to one now comprising over 70 native plant species and a small kitchen garden, I am really excited about the increase in invertebrate diversity, whether they be pollinators, pest or predator, it’s fascinating to watch them and learn about them, and then in turn respond with my gardening choices and methods. It is a wild mess of a garden, pretty weedy in parts and informal but it’s alive and thriving. Seeing so many different native bees has been the biggest buzz! It’s also satisfying to think that any one of my observations could potentially be of use to someone somewhere sometime or at the very least be appreciated by other like minded iNaturalistas.
