I just like plants and birds and rocks and things. But I did spend some time and working with biologists at the Southwestern Research Station in the Chiricahua Mtns (AZ) in the mid 80's and studied desert harvester ants (I was one of Deborah Gordon's first field assistants). During my three summers there I took on identifying all the Chiricahua plants which led to me learning most Arizona vascular plants, genus and species. A class at the U of A with Dr. Mason in Systematic Botany helped too. But that was a long time ago and I fear my credentials may have been confiscated at the border when I moved from AZ to CA in 1992. So these days I just dabble. Bring my bins, my loupe, the old Swiss Army knife my first gf gave me and my camera.
