Looking for grassland ecology work in 2021!

Hello everyone!

2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone and we are all just trying to survive and hold our lives together. iNaturalist has been a great community to stay engaged with during the pandemic and I have greatly enjoyed my interactions with scientists I've met here and the inquisitive people with questions about grass ID!

My current term of employment will end in January next year and I will be searching for opportunities where I can apply my strong interests in botany and grassland ecology. My background includes a PhD in rangelands and wildlife resources from the University of Alberta, and postdoctoral experience from the University of California Davis, and New Mexico State University. The pool of opportunity in Canada is very shallow and extremely competitive. Thus, I've been working in the United States in recent years. I'm looking for a scientist or postdoctoral research position and willing to move for the experience.

If you know of any opportunities please DM me!

Thank you @brandtmagic! New Mexico is a beautiful state and there is so much I wasn't able to do or see due to the circumstances. Someday I'll come back and explore this place further! The Society for Range Management will have their annual meeting here in 2022 I believe and I'm excited to return.

Hi @subaya! My first job in rangeland ecology was at the AAFC station in Swift Current and I loved it, it set me on this path. I promise I apply to every possible job at AAFC where my experience applies. Not sure how applications are reviewed, but I've had some surprising rejections in competitions. I'll make sure to check their site for any relevant job postings.

Hi Lysandra,
Used to be PSC would do the initial screening with few key words and then send it over to the centers for final screening. But I think now Research Scientists are screening the applications directly. Also they have included many new areas of research. So now you may have a better chance. Try to match your experience with the requirements and experience. Good luck and best wishes.
