In heavily manured garden mud. No mosses (except what might be protonemata) or angiosperms were seen in the immediate vicinity.

Liverworts, from a thick patch found growing in a well irrigated, and thoroughly S-shaded, planter bed in a suburban yard in Claremont, CA. Photographed in full sunlight, some feet away. Coin used for scale is a US quarter dollar (¢25 piece), 24.26 mm, 0.955 inch in diameter. Each line on the edge of the coin is approximately 0.64 mm apart.
