On the main house wall at night. They told me it was not high season for insects yet, that there are nights the wall could be all covered with insects.
A lovely moth on the wall of the lodge restaurant at Ankarafantsika.
This is a horrible shot and I don't expect anyone to confirm the species beyond large fritillary (if that). However, I wanted to share this in the records. This is a known site for strays - the last one seen about 15-20 years ago. Surveys have been ongoing here sine late 1970s. I got a really good look at this female and I am confident on the ID. I have monitored regal fritillary population in IL for 24 years and I've seen a lot. Over 500 in 2022 alone. This site is 40-50 miles NW of the closest known breeding location.
