Uncommon. Growing on dry slope in opening of chamise chaparral.

No idea what it could be. It was coming up in a disturbed area thats being used as an illegal dumping spot. Soil was very fine and compact, almost like decomposed granite. There were a few others in the area, some having been ran over. Any attempts to locate a tuber/rhizome were fruitless. I thought maybe Aphyllon, but someone else mentioned that because its disturbed and a dumping ground it could be something non-native like a potato

Kind of a mess, with lots of litter from other nearby plants including Ambrosia acanthicarpa, Atriplex canescens, Scutellaria mexicana, and (probably) Ericameria nauseosa, but wanted to show it in its dry state.
