Mountain avens often mixes with other perennial forbs in mats on talus slopes in the cirque north of Sacajawea Peak. The flowers with white petals and lanceolate leaves with crenate margins are distinctive of mountain avens. This site lies in the cirque below Sacajawea and Pomp Peaks, northern Bridger Range, Gallatin County, Montana.

In the last photo, Dryas is most abundant in the back of the patch whereas Salix reticulata is most abundant at the front of the mat.

A mat-forming perennial common to the alpine talus in the northern Bridger Range especially on Hardscrabble Peak. This site lies just below and to the south of Pomp Peak, northern Bridger Range, Gallatin County, Montana.

Twinflower sandwort is a native perennial mat-forming forb common to alpine and subalpine talus slopes. The linear leaves are less than 1 cm long, the petals are entire, the style branches 3, the pedicels glandular hairy, and the sepals blunt-tipped and hooded. The leaves and stems vary from glabrous to glandular hairy.

American chickweed common on talus slopes of the Bridger Ridge just south of Hardscrabble Peak in the northern Bridger Range, Gallatin County, Montana.

American chickweed is a glandular hairy perennial forb that inhabits rocky alpine slopes and is endemic to western Montana and adjacent Alberta. The combination of glandular leaves and stems and broad leaves, often ovate in outline, distinguish this species from other Stellaria species.

Rhus with a wide variety of leaf morphologies on a single individual. The main trunk appears burned. Leaves high up, in direct sun, tended to have the taco-fold of R. ovata while lower leaves in shade were generally flat; both high and low leaves had irregular toothiness in the margins. Tentatively marking as the hybrid.

This was the only A.p. desertica we found on a survey of the Cedar Spring Trail and the PCT north of it. We found it at our turn-around point, so there may be more plants of this taxon farther north.

The first pix shows the glabrescent ovary of this taxon, very different from the many hairy ovaries of A. glandulosa on the plants farther down. The numerous leaf-like bracts in the infl are also very different from the ones in the previously-seen A. glandulosa.
