Wow, I am making my 1000th observation. Chose one of my favorite South American birds. First encountered in Ginebra on a third floor rooftop flyby not 10 meters away.
Have to stay on top of observations and get to 2000 in the next year.

This tree is adjacent to the state line boundary marker at the high water line, making it the easternmost living thing in Vermont and allowing me to simultaneously nerd out about nature and geography.

The owl was in a maple tree outside my front door. Well camouflaged, only saw it because 2 crows were noisily harassing it in the tree. Stayed for an hour, relocated to different branch, then to edge of garage roof. I live on an open field that was mowed last week so hawk and fox hunting activity has increased. Northern harrier seen 3 days in a row.

Two guys stating they were doing research for NOAA at Nobska Beach - reeled in this shark using multiple poles anchored in the sand at the beach, shark measured 86” I believe but was not tagged like they typically do with individuals that they find or reel in. Caught from past the buoy’s and they said they caught another recently - was released after being measured

Found this cocoon mid February and have been keeping it safe in a jar with air since then, it finally decided to hatch!! Checked on the jar and it was already out of the cocoon ready to spread its wings - sat for a while to get its bearings then I transferred it to a Sweetgum tree right next to where it hatched. Took 3 hours total to chill out, walk up the tree, move its wings on a high branch and then fly off at night (around 10:30pm it finally flew away). Such a special experience!

Found this lil one which I have never seen a color morph like this for a Mud snake. I determined it to be one based off the visual/physical features such as the “tail spine”, pattern, head/eye shape, as well as a divided anal plate.
