Grows on rotting logs. Leaf cells quadrate, bilobed to 1/2 length with triangular lobes, part curved. Perianth mouth laciniate, ciliate, bracts bilobed with triangular, dentte lobes; gemmae ovoid, green, celled, frequent at apices of upright shoots with reduced leaves.

Érablière riche entretenue, avec de la tubulure. Peu d'arbuste mais beaucoup de végétation au sol. Avec Prunus serotina, Carex debilis, Carex novae-angliae et Maianthemum. Sur les zones un peu plus sèches.

Aka Cephalozia catenulata. Growing on a rotting log in the woods. Leaves not decurrent. Leaf cells 15-25 microns, quadrate, and thick-walled. Perianths with long, irregular teeth. Gemmae present.
