Drosera neocaledonica est une espèce carnivore herbacée endémique de Nouvelle-Calédonie répartie dans le sud de la Grande Terre, de Port-Boisé jusqu'au plateau de Dogny.

Cette espèce se trouve surtout en milieu ouvert (maquis, zones marécageuses, parfois forêt) de basse altitude à haute altitude.

Drosera neocaledonica est la seule espèce de droséracée présente en Nouvelle-Calédonie.

We found these about 60m up from a well used path within Steenbok Park while going on a hike. We took the photos shown at a small waterfall, with many sundews growing vertically on the rock face, and a couple growing on the ground around it. However, as we walked on, we came to a moist area on a plateau, and in places there were so many sundews (d.rubrifolia) that it was almost impossible not to stand on them!

I recently contacted an expert on African drosera ( Alexander Dietrick) who identified them, and apparently these are the (now) third known population of d. Rubrifolia!

Other drosera species noted in the area were:
D. Cistiflora
D. Trinervia
D. Capensis

Likely self-established, not introduced. In small raised pond in Arid House 2, Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden. Unlikely to be introduced within the last 10 years as this species was not recorded on the SUBG accession database, so not marked as cultivated.
